No, I was in the living room... Jeff and I looked at each other startled too. I only caught the Spanish part myself. But I'm thinking it was just a monthly
test (at 1 in the morning? I remember doing those Sunday evenings). I wasn't worried because a local radio station tripped it and they broadcast muic no
warnings.

Oooo do you really want to ask that? *goes into broadcaster mode*
Every city has an EAS flagship station (it was Classy 100 in Erie). When they send down weekly/monthly tests the flagship station receives them and sends it out to the rest of the stations in town. However, they just send down the trip tone half the time and you trigger the "This is a test of the emergency broadcast system..." off of... in my day, a cart, but it's probably computer tripped now. What we did and I'm sure it's changed in the past 11 years, was we'd get the trip tone which tripped our EBS monitor. Have to reset it and at the next stop set run the test (in an actual emergency we broke out of the song). We'd cart up the announcement and trip the tone ourselves off the monitor then run the cart. I remember doing that at Energy which was the last time I used EBS, it went to EAS after that. Froggy may have had it on cart too. Star, Fun/Star, and Zoo had the EAS so when they tripped we just ran off the recording on the EAS monitor. However, half the time (n tests) it recorded wrong because it tripped wrong and we'd run it off of a cart. The trip tone would come down (the SCREEEEECH SCREEEECH SCREEEECH SREECH SREECHSREECHSREECH) and the flagship station would already be out of the test and running regular programming. We always had the tests scheduled in the logs so it wouldn't take us off guard. When a human is running it.... you hear it record off the monitor and know the flagship station had already broken back into regular programming so you'd trip it tone only and run the cart. I'm guessing the cable channel does not have a human monitoring it so it ran the trip tone and the recording of whatever the flagship station was playing at the time. I heard the top of the hour ID and it was just after the top of the hour... so... no one was running it manually. Now, I didn't realize that cable got their monitor trips from a radio station.... then again I never worked at the flagship (Ashtabula's was the country station I think, I never worked for Classy in Erie) so I didn't get the crash course in who got what. In an emergancy, they send the trip tone and the NOAA recording, why that never worked on the tests I don't know.
