"What he means..." Lucifer said answering Gretchen's question since Dante couldn't. "Is that he's declaring war on heaven. There has never been a formal 'peace treaty' with heaven; at the same time, even though we are always at war, there is no formal hostilities either. We just keep each other check; make sure one side doesn't over power the other; purposefully or accidentally."
Both Gretchen and Dante seemed to understand; Lucifer felt no need to go on further. He was rather enjoying watching Gabriel's treatment of Satan; chuckling as Satan landed a few feet in front of them when Gabriel threw him. "I thought you knew never to make Gabriel mad..." He said softly to Satan.
Though he stayed quiet during most, still not willing to let his pretense of no longer being an angel be shattered. He also had no way of helping since being dethroned; he couldn't do anything. Even after Astaroth was summoned Lucifer couldn't step in as he had no power over Astaroth any longer.
A fear nagged at him in the back of his mind, though... proved correct when Astaroth began appearing again. If Astaroth came through, all manner of hell, from the low demons that normally couldn't get out on their own to the most powerful demons in hell would be forced on earth. He could tell by the feeling he got from Gabriel when Gabriel looked at the sygil that Satan had used it was a portal sygil; meant to bring hell on earth whether hell wanted to or not.... and he couldn't stop it... even if he was still Prince of Hell.
"How the hell did he get that...?" Lucifer said softly. "No one is supposed to have that sort of sygil..."
